Twelve-year old Paulo Ricardo from EMpower grantee partner Fight for Peace (Luta pela Paz), Brazil was chosen to star in the Olympic’s Closing Ceremony! Paulo was one of the people who received the Olympic Cup on behalf of Rio de Janeiro from the International Olympic Committee on the main stage during the ceremony. He was recognized for his commitment and dedication to boxing and educational activities, and for the positive impact he has had on his community.
Paulo practices boxing at Fight for Peace’s academy in Rio, where he also takes personal development classes and gets educational support and extra help in the subjects he struggles with at school.
Being part of the Fight for Peace has helped Paulo become more confident, improve his grades and become an inspiration and a role model for other academy members and his family.
Paulo says, “to be standing in front of so many people around the world was life changing, just like being part of Fight for Peace has been for me.”
Congrats to Paulo for being a Fight for Peace - and Olympic- Champion!
